Boudoir Photography for Plus Size Women

If you’ve been researching boudoir photography and looking at studio galleries full of one body type, this one is for you.

The most common version of this hesitation isn’t “I’m too big for this.” It’s quieter. It’s scrolling through a studio’s portfolio and feeling like you’d look out of place. Like the photos would be beautiful for someone else but wouldn’t translate to you.

That’s a reasonable thing to feel when the evidence in front of you is consistently one thing. But it’s not an accurate prediction of what would actually happen at your session.

What Boudoir Photography Is Actually Designed to Do

Boudoir photography, done well, works with the body that’s in front of the camera, not around it.

That means posing is chosen for your specific shape. Lighting is adjusted for your specific features. The angles, the sets, the direction, all of it is calibrated to what photographs well on you, not adapted from a template designed for a different body.

A good photographer’s job isn’t to make every body look the same. It’s to find what looks genuinely good on each specific person.

The “All the Poses Are for Thin Bodies” Fear

This is a real concern, and it makes sense. A lot of posing guides are designed with a certain body type in mind.

The poses that work for a curvier or plus-size body are genuinely different. Angles that lengthen, positions that create curves rather than flatten them, lighting that sculpts, these are specific technical skills. Experienced boudoir photographers know them.

You will not be put in poses that make you look like a thin body approximation. The direction Sabrina gives is specific to you, based on what she sees through the lens in real time.

“I’ll Be the Biggest Person You’ve Ever Shot”

We hear some version of this fairly regularly. The fear is that you’ll be an exception the photographer doesn’t know how to handle.

What we’ll say is this: the size of your body is not the variable that determines whether a session goes well. The women who worry most about being “too big” are consistently not the ones who have a bad experience.

The “Should I Wait Until I’ve Lost Weight” Question

[Full answer: /lose-weight-before-boudoir-session] – short version: the goalposts move. The women who say “when I lose 10 kilos” and then do lose 10 kilos often find they’re saying “when I lose another 10 kilos.” The timing feels circular for a reason.

That said, we’re not going to tell you when to book. Only you know what’s right. The point is just that the photos don’t require a different body than the one you have.

What the Session Actually Looks Like

You arrive at the studio in central Geelong. Professional hair and makeup is done first, included, and it’s good. You have time to settle in.

Two hours of shooting. Sabrina directs every shot with specific, clear instruction. You move between four different sets, doing three to five outfit changes.

What you wear is up to you. We have a client wardrobe you can use, or you can bring your own, or both. No lingerie requirement. Some women wear fitted dresses, some wear oversized shirts, some start more covered and end up less so. It’s your session.

About the Reveal

For a lot of women who’ve spent years uncomfortable with how they look in photos, the reveal session is the most significant part.

It’s private. Just you, Jake, and your images. Seeing professional photographs of yourself, with direction, with flattering light, from angles you’d never have chosen yourself, is a different experience to looking in a mirror. “Surprised” is the most common reaction we see.
