What Happens Between Your Boudoir Session and Your Reveal

Most people know there are two parts to a boudoir session, the shoot, and the reveal. What’s less talked about is the bit in between. The two to three weeks where you’ve done the session, you know the images exist somewhere, and you just have to wait.

Here’s exactly what’s happening during that time, and what to expect when you come back.

What happens after you leave the studio

Once your session is done, Sabrina goes through every image from the day. The first pass is a cull, sorting through everything shot to identify the strongest frames. Not every shot makes it through. That’s not a reflection of how the session went, it’s just how photography works. Sabrina is looking for the images where the light, the expression, and the direction all came together.

From there, the selected images go through editing. Boudoir editing at Apricot Aura is about enhancing what’s already there, not changing it. Good light gets refined. Temporary blemishes are toned down or removed depending on your preference. Nothing fundamental is altered. Shauna said it best after her reveal: ‘Jake let me know that they were barely edited. That I am just that beautiful. Wow.’

That’s the standard we’re working to. The images should look like you, on a really good day, photographed by someone who knew what they were doing.

How long does editing take

Your boudoir reveal is booked for two to three weeks after your session. That’s genuine editing time, not a sales tactic to build anticipation (although the anticipation does seem to happen regardless). We now have 2 small children at home so we aren’t as quick as we were years ago when we started however if you need your images we can speed things along.

If you’ve booked a bridal session with a specific wedding date, mention it when you enquire. Jake works backwards from your timeline to make sure the album arrives well before the day. [More on bridal timing: /bridal-boudoir-melbourne/]

What to expect emotionally during the wait

This is the part nobody really prepares you for.

Most women leave the session feeling good, surprised by how fun and comfortable it was, often genuinely proud of themselves. Then the wait starts. And for a lot of people, the doubt starts creeping back in.

‘What if the photos didn’t work out?’ ‘What if I hate them?’ ‘What if I look exactly the way I’m afraid I look?’

This is so common that it’s almost universal. Shauna sent this message before her reveal: ‘I really hope they worked out okay? I really began to doubt myself. the past 2 weeks’

It’s worth knowing that the doubt during the wait is not a reliable predictor of what the reveal will actually feel like. The two things are almost completely unrelated.

What the boudoir reveal session actually looks like

Your reveal session is a private appointment with Jake, back at the studio. You sit down together and go through your edited images for the first time. There’s no presentation, no dramatic unveiling, just a screen, your images, and time to actually look at them.

Jake walks you through the collections and products after you’ve seen everything. Nothing is purchased until you’ve had a proper look. There’s no pressure and no time limit.

Most clients describe the reveal as the most significant part of the whole experience. The gap between what they expected to see and what they actually see tends to be the thing that stays with them.

If you’re not able to make it back to the studio, a Zoom reveal is an option. Most people prefer to come in, it’s a different experience seeing the images on a proper screen in a calm space than on a laptop at home, but the choice is yours.
